So, you’re getting ready for an excursion of some kind? Maybe you’re taking a business trip, going to visit family, or taking a much-needed vacation. As you probably know, it can be incredibly easy to forget some things that you need. Since it’s not uncommon to forget things, we wanted to take a minute to talk about this subject.
Before packing, consider what the residence will have available for you. Find out if the place you’re staying provides sheets, towels, and blankets. Find out if they have toiletries and/or a hairdryer there or if you should bring these items. They may also have some extras available in case you forget something. Some places may even provide some additional amenities, like bikes you can ride (so you don’t have to pack yours if you were thinking of doing so). When you know what the rental provides it can help you better prepare for what you want to pack.
Next, make yourself a list of everything that you want to pack. That list should cover any of the last-minute items (like toiletries you use daily, your cellphone charger, and a pillow if you have a favorite one). We recommend creating a list of things you can pack in advance and a separate list of last-minute “don’t forget” items. As you pack for your trip, be sure to cross out the items on your list so you can keep track of everything that you’ve already taken care of. The “don’t forget” list should be placed on top of your wallet, purse or your suitcase so you remember to grab everything before heading out the door.
Before you leave your house, remember to do a quick walk-through and consider if there’s anything you may have forgotten. If you give yourself a little wiggle room before it’s time to leave you won’t feel so rushed. When you’re rushed you’re more likely to leave something behind.
Another thing to keep in mind is that if you start packing early, it will help ensure that you don’t over-pack or under-pack. You’ll have time to evaluate what you’re packing and won’t be making last-minute decisions that you might be disappointed about later.
If you do forget something, it’s not the end of the world. You may just have to make a trip to a local store to grab a backup of whatever it is you need. You may even find that the residence you’re staying in has extras (especially when it comes to toiletries). It’s also a good idea to reach out to the property manager and ask them if they have specific tools, like a hairdryer or ironing board, before booking a reservation.
We understand it can be frustrating when you leave items at home, but hopefully, this blog post will help you be better prepared for your next trip. And, don’t forget, it can be beneficial to find out what the property offers in advance. If they’re managed by an expert property management company, you’re more likely to get excellent service.
