Are you getting ready to renovate your short-term rental? There are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind as you prepare it for guests.
One of the things you want to consider is the colors you’ll use in your decorating. You’ll want the overall theme to be neutral to appeal to more guests. However, you can complement neutral tones with some colorful accessories like rugs, throw pillows, linens and art pieces. A few added pops of vibrancy can go a long way to complete your design.
When choosing everything from the paint to the furniture, you’ll want to consider what style you’re going to go with. Maybe you’ll choose a theme based on something that you are fond of or maybe you’ll choose the theme based on what you think travelers will expect to find in your location. If you’re not sure what theme you’d like to go with, Alisha Arnold offers some basic design choices: “farmhouse, modern, rustic, industrial, traditional [and] boho.” Her blog also suggests a color palette based on each choice, in case you’re interested in checking that out.
Beyond just thinking about the design style, you want to take into consideration what type of furniture you are going to offer. Bring in quality furniture that provides comfort and style. Make sure that there is enough seating for the maximum amount of guests allowed to book with you. Make comfort a top priority, especially in the bedroom with a cozy mattress, beautiful linens and plenty of pillows to choose from.
Your decor shouldn’t be too personal or busy. Some accessories can help complement the space and give it character. But too many can look cluttered. Be careful when choosing the pieces you’ll put on display and make sure everything has its place. Put away any personal photos or other mementos, so that it feels like your guests’ space when they’re staying in it.
Think about the lighting in your space. It’s a good idea to offer different types so they can choose to set the mood they want. Have some overhead lights, but also provide some floor lamps. In the bedroom, be sure to provide end table lights as well or a dimmer switch.
Think closely about the accessories. You could put some greenery throughout the place (such as high-quality artificial plants), mirrors, large hanging artwork or other fun pieces to give the room more character. Also, consider using several different materials in the overall design, such as wood, metal, leather, or macrame.
