Are you looking to attract millennials and members of Gen Z to your short-term rental? If so, a great way to do this is by making it Instagram-worthy.
If your short-term rental is Instagram-worthy, then people will take pictures and post them on social media, getting your property seen by more people. It’s like free publicity after you pay to do a little remodeling or renovating. Making a place Instagram-worthy doesn’t have to be pricey. It can be done with a few simple updates. It’s really up to you how far you want to go.
What you want to keep in mind is the type of things people love to post on Instagram. (Ie: Things that interest them.) It could be something unusual, adorable, amazing, or something that resonates with them.
One of the ways you can create an Instagram-worthy experience is by starting their vacation with a beautiful gift basket. This is something your guests may want to share with the world through the social media platform. Put in some local favorites for extra oomph. Many younger generations like to feel like a local when they’re visiting from out of town. If you want to save money on these gift baskets, you may be able to buy some items at bulk pricing or strike a deal with a local company.
Another way to get people to share photos on the platform of your property is to provide fun experiences. Is there anything that your property could provide that others may not? There are plenty of fun outings or classes you could potentially consider depending on what your property and location have to offer.
In addition, you can get right to it and create a selfie wall. If you go to Google and search “selfie wall” you will see a number of fun ideas. Wings have been painted on walls for someone to stand in front of for pictures, cool patterns have been used, inspirational quotes have been written on walls, and much more. There are plenty of things you can do with this. You could use an interesting wallpaper to create an accent, make a chalkboard wall and supply chalk for your guests to use, create a magnet wall with big moveable magnetic letters, or do something else entirely.
You can simply add some pops of color throughout your short-term rental space. Maybe you went with a more neutral tone for the walls. If so, this allows you to really play with the color throughout the rest of the home. You can stick to a color theme like pops of red throughout or choose various colors that tie in together. Include colorful linens, pillows, artwork, and knick-knacks.
Let’s not forget the importance of lighting. Good lighting is necessary for a great photo. So, if you can’t bring in more natural lighting make sure to invest in some good overhead lighting, but also add some end table lights and/or dimmable lighting so guests can change the ambiance as needed.
There are plenty of ways to give your short-term rental an Instagram-worthy edge. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. But remember, you want to reach a large audience so try to stick to things that appeal to a wide variety of people. Consider your locale and what people visiting that area may be intrigued by.
