You’ve probably seen us write about the importance of guidebooks before. They provide clear instructions for your guests and introduce them to your community. Guidebooks really are a must when running a successful short-term rental. Even so, you may be wondering what to include. In this blog, we provide a step-by-step guide, so you won’t miss anything.
Use the first page of the guidebook to welcome guests to your property. Start by including a warm greeting with a brief introduction. Then, let them know what type of information they’ll find in the guidebook.
Under the greeting, include important details like cleaning rules, property policies, check-in and check-out times, and where they should park. For a smooth stay, try to provide parking instructions prior to their arrival.
In addition, you’ll want to provide guests with instructions on how to use technology at the property like TV remotes, alarm systems, or smart locks. Some of these instructions may need their own section in the guidebook if it’s too much information to include in the introduction. Don’t forget to include the names of the Wifi hotspot and password, as well as your contact information.
Speaking of contact information, include contacts for local car rentals, restaurants, tour guides, medical facilities, the firehouse, and the police station. You can delve further into local places by adding information about what’s nearby. If there isn’t a washer or dryer on the property, you may want to tell your guests where a local laundromat is.
Other places they may be interested in knowing about include the closest pharmacies, ATMs, grocery stores, churches, post office, and gas stations. For guests who aren’t renting a car, provide information about public transportation. You can also let them know if Lyft and/or Uber are available in your area.
A guidebook is a great place to welcome your guests, provide information about your property, and give them helpful tips regarding the area. Guests will appreciate having this information available when they arrive. If you have time, create a digital guidebook and email it to guests before their arrival.
